When a Minecraft Bedrock addon does not load, crashes a world, loses textures or reports missing dependencies, the cause is usually an incomplete import, an inactive companion pack, a conflict, an outdated game version or the wrong pack order. This guide follows Minecraft Help's official troubleshooting advice and explains how to isolate the problem safely.

Protect your world first: create a copy or backup before removing packs. Disabling an addon that provides custom mobs or blocks can remove those entities or replace blocks in the saved world.

Start with the basic checks

  1. Close Minecraft completely and reopen it.
  2. Update Minecraft Bedrock through your platform store.
  3. Confirm that the addon supports your current Minecraft version.
  4. Open World Settings and verify the addon under both Behavior Packs and Resource Packs.
  5. If the download included two packs, activate both unless the creator explicitly says only one is required.

Understand behavior packs and resource packs

A behavior pack changes gameplay rules, entities, items, recipes or mechanics. A resource pack provides textures, models, sounds and other visual assets. Many addons use both. If only the behavior pack is active, custom content may appear invisible or use missing textures. If only the resource pack is active, the visuals may exist while the gameplay features never load.

Fix missing or corrupted packs

Delete the damaged download file, return to the original creator's official page and download the correct release again. Import the new .mcpack or .mcaddon file and wait for Minecraft's success message. Then reopen World Settings and activate every required pack.

Do not combine a behavior pack from one version with a resource pack from another. Version mismatches can create dependency errors even when both packs have similar names.

Find addon conflicts safely

Minecraft Help warns that multiple addons can conflict, especially when several packs change the same assets or systems. Test the suspected addon in a new world by itself. If it works there, add the other packs back one at a time until the problem returns.

  1. Create a temporary test world.
  2. Activate only the addon you are testing.
  3. Enter the world and verify its main feature.
  4. Add one additional addon, then test again.
  5. Repeat until you identify the combination that causes the issue.
Why use a test world? Removing an addon from your main world may delete its custom mobs and replace its custom blocks. Isolating the problem elsewhere protects your builds.

Reorder behavior and resource packs

When two active packs modify the same file, the pack with higher priority is normally applied. In World Settings, open Active packs and move the addon that should control the shared feature above the competing pack. Test behavior packs and resource packs separately because their priority lists are independent.

Experiments and Script API requirements

Only enable experimental settings that the addon creator specifically requires. Some modern addons use stable APIs and need no experiments; others target preview features. Turning on unrelated experiments does not repair an incompatible addon and can change the world permanently. For Script API addons, use the Minecraft version and addon release stated by the creator.

Realms troubleshooting

Activate the packs in the Realm world's settings and wait for the upload to complete. Players joining a Realm automatically download and apply the packs activated on that Realm. If changes do not appear, download a world copy, fix and test the packs locally, then replace the Realm world with the corrected copy.

Common errors and solutions

“Missing dependency”

Install the matching companion pack, confirm both packs came from the same addon release and activate them in the same world. Reimport the complete .mcaddon package if available.

“Duplicate pack detected”

Remove the older duplicate from Minecraft storage, restart the game and import the newest file again. Back up worlds before removing anything they currently use.

The addon imports but nothing changes

Verify that you activated it for the correct world. Imported packs remain under My Packs until activated. Check both pack categories and restart Minecraft after activation.

The world crashes during loading

Test the addon alone in a new world. If it still crashes, update Minecraft and redownload the pack. If it works alone, another active pack is probably conflicting with it.

Official sources

Best diagnostic order: restart, update, verify both packs, redownload, test alone, then test pack priority. This finds most addon problems without risking the original world.
