Minecraft Bedrock on Xbox can keep worlds in Microsoft's cloud, but players still need to understand whether each world is stored locally, in the cloud or in both places. This guide follows the current official Minecraft Help instructions.

Before changing storage: Sign in with the Microsoft account that owns the worlds, connect the console to the internet and let Minecraft finish synchronizing.

How Xbox cloud saves work

Xbox automatically backs up recent Minecraft worlds while the console is online and the correct Microsoft account is signed in. New worlds are backed up after creation, while worlds created offline synchronize the next time they are played online.

Check the status of a world

Open Settings > Storage > Manage Worlds in Minecraft. The world list uses status icons to show where each save exists:

  • Cloud-synced: the world exists on the console and in the cloud.
  • Cloud-only: a cloud icon means the save must be downloaded to this console.
  • Local-only: a hard-drive icon with an upward arrow means the save has not been uploaded.

Upload a local world

  1. Open Minecraft and go to Settings.
  2. Select Storage, then Manage Worlds.
  3. Choose the local-only world.
  4. Select Upload to cloud.
  5. Keep Minecraft open and online until synchronization finishes.

Download a cloud world

  1. Sign in on the destination Xbox with the same Microsoft account.
  2. Open Settings > Storage > Manage Worlds.
  3. Select the world marked with the cloud icon.
  4. Choose Download from cloud.
  5. Wait for the save to finish downloading before opening it.

Restore the latest cloud save

Minecraft normally restores a missing world automatically. If the local copy is outdated, the official instructions say to open My games & apps, manage Minecraft's saved data, select your profile and choose Delete from console. Launching Minecraft afterward downloads the latest cloud version.

Important: Select “Delete from console,” not an option that removes data everywhere. Confirm that a current cloud copy exists before removing the local save.

Common problems

The world is not uploading

Confirm that the Xbox is online, Minecraft is updated and the correct Microsoft account is active. Open the world once while connected so an older offline save can synchronize.

Cloud storage is full

Manage Worlds shows storage usage. Download important worlds locally before removing less important cloud copies, and verify the saved location after every change.

The world looks outdated

Stop playing on multiple consoles at the same time. Allow the device with the newest progress to upload fully before opening the world elsewhere.
