Minecraft Preview 26.70.20 brittle ice and jukebox playlists

Minecraft Preview 26.70.20 is now available for testing with another group of features from the fourth game drop of 2026. The update introduces Brittle Ice, automatic Jukebox playlists, ice-cave crevasses, a Nether spawning experiment, and a broad set of stability, interface, Realms and creator fixes.

Confirmed: Mojang published this Beta and Preview changelog on October 13, 2026. These features are still in development and may change before their full release.

Brittle Ice adds a new danger to ice caves

Brittle Ice is a fragile block that cracks when a player or mob stands on it. It breaks after three crack stages and does not melt. Mojang says it can generate naturally and can also form when water flows next to Blue Ice. The block releases small ice particles while cracking and when it finally breaks.

The new block matters because crevasses can generate throughout the Ice Cave biome. Brittle Ice may cover the opening, turning an apparently safe surface into a trap above a narrow ravine. Water pools can appear at the bottom, but the official notes do not promise that every fall will be safe.

Jukebox playlists are finally testable

Players can now place a single Chest, Trapped Chest or Copper Chest variant directly above a Jukebox and use the music discs inside it as a playlist. Discs play in slot order, empty slots and unrelated items are skipped, and the playlist loops back to the beginning.

When one disc finishes, the Jukebox swaps it for the next available disc. Ejecting the current disc skips forward. If the container has no other music disc, the disc already inside the Jukebox plays again. This is a compact vanilla setup that should be useful for bases, shops, minigames and adventure maps.

Frostbite and winter feature adjustments

The Frostbite can now pick up Spears, although it does not use their charge attack. It can also stand on Brittle Ice without breaking it. The Freezing effect received tooltip corrections, the freezing tipped-arrow texture was updated, and Ice Crystals now render at the intended size.

Optional Nether spawning rebalancing

A separate experiment reduces Nether mob density and changes fortress spawning so it behaves more like Java Edition. Because this is listed as an experimental feature, players must enable it deliberately and should avoid treating its current balance as final.

Important fixes for players

  • PlayStation 5 received a crash fix for worlds using many textures.
  • Opening an Abandoned Camp chest for the first time should cause less lag.
  • Windows pack downloads are stored as blobs to reduce partial deletion by Windows Disk Management.
  • Opening an .mcworld or .mcaddon file now imports it when Minecraft is already running.
  • Marketplace content downloads no longer delete development packs with matching UUIDs.
  • Android received memory-allocation performance improvements.

What is still pending?

Mojang has not announced that these Preview features are final or supplied a release date for the completed game drop in this changelog. Preview and Beta builds can be unstable, and feature behavior, balance or availability may change after testing and feedback.

How to test the update

Minecraft Preview is available on Xbox, PlayStation, Windows and iOS. Android players use the Beta program through Google Play. Back up important worlds before opening them in a test build, and remember that every participant in multiplayer must use the same Preview or Beta version.
