How to install Minecraft Bedrock Addons on Windows, Android and iOS

Minecraft Bedrock Add-Ons can introduce new mobs, blocks, items, recipes and gameplay systems. This guide explains how to import community files, activate their packs correctly and solve the errors that most often stop an Add-On from working.

.mcaddonComplete Add-On bundle
.mcpackResource or behavior pack
.mcworldReady-to-play world

Before you install an Add-On

Confirm that you are using Minecraft: Bedrock Edition and that the download supports your current game version. Community downloads normally use one of these formats:

FileWhat it containsWhere it appears
.mcaddonOne bundle that can contain resource and behavior packs. My Packs after import.
.mcpackOne resource pack or behavior pack.Resource Packs or Behavior Packs.
.mcworldA complete Bedrock world, sometimes with packs already attached.Your Worlds list.
.zipAn archive. Only rename it when the creator specifically says it is a packaged Bedrock file.It will not import directly as a normal ZIP.

Back up an important world before testing a new Add-On. Some packs change entities, blocks or scripts in ways that can remain in the save after removal.

Install Add-Ons on Windows 10 or 11

Download the Bedrock file.
Save the creator's .mcaddon, .mcpack or .mcworld file to your Downloads folder.
Open the downloaded file.
Double-click it. Windows should hand it to Minecraft for Windows and launch the game.
Wait for the import message.
Do not close the game while “Import started” is visible. Continue only after Minecraft reports a successful import.
Open the target world settings.
Select Play, use the pencil icon beside your world, then activate the imported packs.

If Windows asks which app should open the file, choose Minecraft for Windows. A Java Edition launcher cannot import Bedrock Add-On packages.

Install Add-Ons on Android

Download the Add-On and open the Files app on your device.
Go to Downloads and tap the .mcaddon, .mcpack or .mcworld file.
Choose Minecraft when Android asks which application should open it.
Wait for the successful import notice, then activate the pack from the world's settings.

If your browser saved the package with an extra .zip extension, compare the filename with the creator's instructions. Do not extract or rename files at random; a real ZIP may simply contain separate packs or written installation instructions.

Install Add-Ons on iPhone or iPad

Download the package in Safari and tap the download arrow, or locate it in the Files app.
Tap the file and use Share if it does not open automatically.
Choose Open in Minecraft. Minecraft should launch and begin importing the content.
After the success message, edit your world and enable the new behavior and resource packs.

Activate the Add-On in a world

Importing a file places it in Minecraft, but most Add-Ons still need to be activated for a world.

Select Play. Create a new world, or use the pencil icon to edit an existing one.
Open Behavior Packs, select My Packs, choose the imported pack and press Activate.
Open Resource Packs and activate the matching resource pack if Minecraft did not enable it automatically.
Read the creator's requirements. Enable Beta APIs or other experiments only when the Add-On specifically requires them.
Start the world and check the Add-On's guide book, items, mobs or commands.

Pack order matters when two Add-Ons replace the same texture, item or behavior. Put the pack that should take priority above the conflicting pack, then test again.

Use an Add-On on Minecraft Realms

Open Play → Realms → Settings, edit the active world slot and enable the required Behavior Packs and Resource Packs. Confirm the activation and allow Minecraft to upload the changed world. Players joining that Realm will download the Add-Ons applied to it.

Common problems and fixes

“Failed to import”

Check that the download finished, that its extension is valid and that it was made for Bedrock Edition. Download the file again if its size is zero or unusually small.

Duplicate pack detected

A version with the same UUID may already be installed. First check whether the creator supplied a newer version. Back up your worlds before removing an old pack.

The pack imports but does nothing

Activate both the behavior and resource components, review pack order and confirm whether the creator requires experiments or Beta APIs.

Minecraft does not appear in “Open with”

Verify that Minecraft Bedrock is installed on that device. Move the file into Downloads, then try opening it from the system Files app.

The world stops loading

Try the Add-On in a new test world. The pack may be incompatible with your game version or with another active Add-On.

Textures are missing

Make sure the matching resource pack is active. If several visual packs are enabled, change their order and reload the world.

Final checklist

  • The download is for Minecraft Bedrock Edition.
  • The file uses .mcaddon, .mcpack or .mcworld.
  • Minecraft displayed a successful import message.
  • The required Behavior Pack and Resource Pack are active.
  • Your Minecraft version matches the creator's supported version.
  • You tested the Add-On in a backup or a new world first.
